Good News for Ford Fiesta fans, Ford last week Friday announced that they will be introducing the new Ford Fiesta ST locally. The Ford Fiesta ST was first unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year and most recently at the LA Auto Show. The Ford Fiesta ST is set for launch in South Africa in the first half of 2013.

The Newly Updated Ford Figo

The Newly Updated Ford Figo

The updated Ford Figo has received some exterior design enhancements which take on Ford’s Kinetic design elements, and added interior features including the addition of Bluetooth connectivity on some models.

According to Gavin Golightly, Ford Marketing Manager, the updated Ford Figo “is well-positioned as a value-for-money prospect and with the addition of some new enhancements its overall appeal is further cemented.”

The Ford Figo is available with a choice of two fuel-efficient engines, the 1.4l Petrol Duratec and the 1.4l Turbo diesel Duratorq, both of which are mated to a five-speed manual transmission.

The 1.4l Petrol Duratec has a maximum power output of 62kW @ 6000rpm and enjoys 127Nm of torque at 4000rpm. This leads to a claimed frugal fuel consumption figure of 6.6l/100km and 156g/km CO2 emissions on the combined cycle according to the New European Driving Cycle.

The 1.4l Turbo Diesel Duratorq is just as impressive sporting 51kW @ 4000rpm and reaching its maximum torque peak of 160Nm at just 2000rpm. It uses just 5.3l/100km and 139g/km of CO2 emissions on the combined cycle as measured by the New European Driving Cycle.

Customers can choose between two trim levels, the Ambiente being the entry level option available in both petrol and diesel guise and the Trend, the high spec model, available in petrol configuration.

Both the Ford Figo Ambiente and the Trend further incorporate Ford’s global Kinetic design DNA with new design elements incorporate into the bonnet and bumper. The lower grille has been revised with the upper grille benefiting from the addition of a chrome line. The head and tail lamp designs have also been revised while the fog lamp housing features a more aggressive and defined look.

The Ambiente model has been further enhanced with the addition of a new eight-spoke wheel design while the Trend model receives a new alloy wheel design.

The Ford  Figo’s In Car Entertainment system allows one to switch between radio, CD/MP3 or one’s iPod easily and with added versatility thanks to the addition of Bluetooth functionality.

The Bluetooth system allows you to connect a mobile phone to the audio system and therefore connect and disconnect calls through the system. It also allows for the connection or rejection of a second incoming call. Caller ID is displayed on the vehicle’s display and phonebook contacts and call history can be synchronised with the audio system.

Needless to say the Ford Figo has no shortage of safety features with dual front airbags, ABS with EBD and PATS (Passive Anti-Theft System) providing a piece of mind driving experience.

The Ford Figo comes with a 4-year/120000km warranty and 5-year corrosion warranty. Service intervals are 20000km for petrol derivatives and 15000km for diesel.

All-New 2013 Ford Kuga Confirmed For SA Introduction

All-New 2013 Ford Kuga Confirmed For SA Introduction

Ford South Africa has confirmed that the all-new Ford Kuga will be introduced locally. The all-new Kuga will feature two new engine options a 1.6L EcoBoost petrol engine with 6-speed SelectShift automatic transmission and a 2.0L TDCi turbo diesel engine with PowerShift automatic transmission.

According to Ford, these new engines should offer some versatility to the range and at the same time continue to provide customers with engines that offer high power and high torque while consuming less fuel.

Other than the additional engine options, the all-new Ford Kuga also has a sleeker design which according to Ford also optimises or rather aids fuel efficiency. The new model is almost 10% more aerodynamic than the outgoing model, while the Kuga’s Active Grille Shutter system further enhances fuel economy by reducing wind resistance.

The Active Grille Shutter systems on the Ford Kuga works by keeping the grill slat open when extra engine cooling air is required, such as low-speed stop-and-go driving. When cruising on the highway at steady speeds, the grille slats automatically close to improve aerodynamics and fuel efficiency.

A number of advanced safety features will also be available as options on the Ford Kuga, such as; Adaptive Cruise Control, Blind Spot Information System, Lane Keeping Aid, Active City Stop.

Other than that, among the customer-focus features being shown for the first time in South Africa on a Ford product is “open sesame” – a hands-free automatic tailgate, allowing customers to open or close the rear tailgate by simply sweeping a foot under the rear bumper.

Full details of the line-up, specifications and features have not yet been released but will be released closer to the vehicle’s launch in 2013.

The New Ford Focus ST vs The VW Golf VI GTI, Which Is Better?[Video]

The New Ford Focus ST vs The VW Golf VI GTI, Which Is Better?[Video]

In this video Ken Block and Vaughn Gittin Jr. put the New Ford Focus ST against the GOlf VI GTi. The video may be a bit biased considering that Ford asked both drivers to pit the two vehicles against each other, and perhaps even more so since both drivers professionally race Ford vehicles.

However the video makes for great entertainment. We think the Ford and VW fans will be at each others throats really soon, especially since the Ford Focus ST has now been launched locally.

The Exciting Ford Fiesta Magnet

The Exciting Ford Fiesta Magnet

Ford South Africa will be introducing the limited edition Ford Fiesta Magnet, of which only 75 cars will be available end November. The car will be available in a number of colours, all of which are Black. This reminds one of Henry Ford statement when he kick started Ford with the introduction of the Model T in 1909, “Any customer can have a car painted any colour that he wants so long as it is black.”

The Ford Fiesta Magnet stands apart from the crowd with its up-rated performance credentials, unique interior and exterior styling elements and connected mobility features.

The Fiesta Magnet is powered by 1.6-litre Duratec petrol engine with 99kW and 160Nm, 11kW and 8Nm extra over the standard 1.6-litre Duratec engine. The handling also receives some attention with a special designed sports suspension to complete the dynamic package.

Exterior changes to the Ford Fiesta include body-colour front and rear bumpers with side-skirts and aerofoil, rocker-panel mouldings and a sporty rear spoiler. Further details unique to the Magnet’s exterior appearance are a unique front grille surround, painted fog lamp rings, halogen projector headlamps with black bezel and privacy glass on rear side windows and tailgate glass. To complete the look, it rides on black 17” alloy wheels.

Inside the cabin the exclusive treatment continues with the addition of black leather sports seats with silver stitching and seat heaters in the front seats. The steering wheel, with gloss black spoke shells, is similarly finished in black leather and silver stitching, while alloy pedal capping’s, front and rear Magnet door mats and a heated windshield complete the stylish interior atmosphere.

Other than that the rest of the car’s features are as per any standard Ford Fiesta.

The Ford Fiesta range is offered with a 4-year / 120 000km warranty and 4-year / 60 000km service plan. Service intervals are staggered at 20 000km intervals for this petrol derivative. Customers will also benefit from 3-years of Roadside Assistance and a 5-year corrosion warranty.

The Fiesta Magnet will go on sale for R229000.

Formula Drift Driver Vaughn Gittin Jr. Drifts Round Ford Plant

Formula Drift Driver Vaughn Gittin Jr. Drifts Round Ford Plant

Ford Racing recently released a video of Vaughn Gittin Jr. driving around the Ford Flat Rock Assembly Plant where they currently build the Ford Mustang. This is on the heels of Ford’s recent announcement to sponsor the Formula Drift Series.

Vaughn Gittin Jr. drifts the Ford Flat Rock assembly plant all the way from the assembly line to the test track, onto the shipping rail car. If you are wondering who Vaughn Gittin Jr is or what Formula Drift is all about, here is some quick info.

Formula Drift is recognized as North American’s professional drifting championship series and Vaughn Gittin Jr. is a self-taught professional drifter who races in the Formula Drift series with a Monster Energy Falken Tire Ford Mustang RTR and is currently ranked second in the series.

Don’t try compare the video to one of Ken Blocks DC Shoes videos, cause it’s not as technical but it’s entertaining.

What’s even more interesting is that Ford actually allowed Vaughn Gittin Jr. to drive like this. It is generally not common practice for any vehicle manufacturer to allow this kind of behaviour considering the strict safety guidelines they operate under.

Ford Focus ST Sound Symposer [Video]

Ford Focus ST Sound Symposer [Video]

In order to enhance your aural driving pleasure the Ford Focus ST comes equipped with a “Sound Symposer” built into it that direct the right engine sounds to the Focus ST Cabin.

A large part of this also has to do with the fact that the Ford Focus ST now uses a 4 cylinder turbocarged engine as opposed to the 5 cylinder turbocharged engine that is used on the outgoing model.

The video below makes out a comparison between the mundane and sometimes rather annoying  daily noises we hear as we going about our business as opposed to the enchanting engine sound that emanates from the Focus ST engine.

You can read more about the Focus ST and Pricing in our previous articles.
