VW Taigun Concept - Could This Be One Of The New SUVs VW Talked About?

This week saw the premier of the VW Taigun Concept at the São Paulo International Motor Show, a four-seat compact SUV.

We mentioned last week that VW would be considering the introduction of two new SUVs to the market, the one model coming in just below the current Volkswagen Tiguan, and the other model filling in the gap between the Tiguan and the Touareg.

The premier of the Taigun at the São Paulo International Motor may just give us an indication of how the new compact SUV will look.

The VW Taigun concept exhibits the same exterior design DNA that we have become accustomed to from VW, and which ultimately translates to a sophisticated and powerful appearance. The proportions of the VW Taigun result in relatively short overhangs and what VW calls “appealing proportions.”

The Taigun is powered by a 3-cylinder 1.0 litre TSI engine with a power output of 81kW and torque output of 175Nm. The VW Taigun will accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 9.2 seconds, reach a top speed of 186km/h and have a claimed fuel consumption of 4.5l/100km.

Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, Member of the Board of Management of the Volkswagen Brand for Technical Development, comments: “The torque-strong three-cylinder is an ideal engine for such a compact SUV; it is a companion for driving through the urban environment that is as efficient as it is dynamic.”

Owing to the clever utilisation of space the VW Taigun will also have 280 litres boot, increasing to 987 litres when the rear bench seat is folded down.
