Audi Crosslane Coupé Concept [with Video]

The Audi Crosslane Coupé Concept 2+2 seater plug-in hybrid premiered at the 2012 Paris Motor Show provides a glimpse to the design language of future Audi Q models.

The front of the Audi Crosslane Coupé is dominated by a single-frame grille, which is subdivided into several segments by struts and the large air intakes on the bumper. The front headlights are trapezoidal in shape and use Audi Matrix LED headlight technology.

The side profile of the car is dominated by horizontal edges above the wheels, and the doors which extend rather low due to the space frame design which allows very low sills.

At the rear the main highlights are, the tail lights divided into two segments by the boot lid seam, and the lower bumper which incorporates an aluminium diffuser.

Another feature of the Audi Crosslane Coupé is the removable roof which can be removed and fitted over the load area to allow for open top driving.

On the interior passengers are met by electrically adjustable sport seats with integrated head restraints, and a low dashboard which is biased towards the driver. The digital instrument cluster displays pertinent information to the driver including the drive system operating status and the aircon controls integrate miniature displays on the dials.

From an infotainment perspective the Audi Crosslane Coupé also features the Audi Connect system which is Audi’s new online service allowing passengers to keep connected to the web and the varying social platforms.

The centre console integrates a large selector lever, which is electrically extended when the car is started; it is used to control the hybrid drive.

The chassis/spaceframe is constructed from a mix of aluminium, carbon fibre-reinforced polymer (CFRP) and glass fibre-reinforced polymer (GFRP). The concept car has an unladen weight of about 1,390 kg, including the large lithium-ion battery.

The plug-in hybrid drive of the Audi Crosslane Coupé, comprises a combustion engine, two electric motors and a single-stage transmission; its system power is 130kW. The Audi Crosslane Coupé sprints from 0-100km/h in 8.6 seconds, and in pure electric mode takes 9.8 seconds. The car’s top speed is 182km/h. It offers the potential for up to 256.8mpg and emits 26 g/km of CO2. The lithium-ion battery has an output of 17.4 kWh, sufficient for an operating range of around 85km in the electric mode.
