Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo Concept

The Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo (or Sports Wagon) concept was unveiled at the Paris Motor Show yesterday along with a slew of other products from the VW Group.

The styling of the Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo concept gives a hint of the future styling direction that Porsche is heading for. Just looking at the Panamera itself the, the styling of the Sport Turismo may give a hint to how a facelift of the current Porsche Panamera would look like.

The styling of the Porsche Panamera Sport Tursimo is rather familiar but with some certain styling points standing out namely at the front of the car where we see C-Shaped light units (indicators and side lights) mounted on the large air inlets on the bumper as well as the four-point LED.

What’s noticeable on the side profile is the absence of the exterior side mirrors which are replaced by two cameras mounted in the side air outlets and whose images are shown on the display in the cockpit.

What will also come as a welcome change to Porsche enthusiasts is the redesigned/reshaped rear. The rear features four point rear LED lights with the brake light positioned between the rear lights. An adoptive rear spoiler is also mounted on the roof and aids in improving downforce.

The exterior body colour used on the Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo is Liquid Metal Blue which Porsche believes highlights its contours and design lines more distinctly. The wheels in dual-spoke design have a bi-colour look, and the brake callipers are painted Acid Green. The hub locks of the wheels recall the origins of every Porsche – which is motorsport.

The Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo concept is powered by Porsche’s e-hybrid system, which is Porsche’s version of their plug-in hybrid technology. The Acid Green badges on the side of the vehicle denote the hybrid capability of the vehicle.

The peak power of the hybrid system is 306kW (254kW from V6 engine and 70kW from electric motor), and allows the Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in less than 6 seconds (claimed). The claimed fuel consumption based on the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) is 3.5l/100km with CO2 emissions under 82.g/km. The hybrid system used on the concept is an advancement of the current hybrid systems used on the Panamera S Hybrid and the Cayenne S Hybrid.

The electric power pack has also been switched or upgraded from a nickel-hydride battery pack to a lithium-ion battery pack with a higher energy density. Charging of the power pack is done whilst driving as well as externally charged by means of a charging interface in the vehicle which allows the car to be charged within 2.5 hours.

The interior also receives some changes the major changes being the integration of a plethora of TFT colour screens (some of which are touch screens) to display a variety of information to the driver.
