Nissan Nismo Brand – A New Era [w/video]

Nissan Nismo Brand – A New Era [w/video]

The biggest news for us this week was Nissans confirmation of Nismo as Nissan’s exclusive global performance road car and motorsport brand and the official opening of the new Nismo global headquarters and development centre in Yokohama Japan.

Nismo is already well-known to motorsports and performance car enthusiasts in Japan and to millions of global gaming enthusiasts.

In a special ceremony yesterday, Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn declared the new Nismo headquarters open and explained how it would play an even more prominent role for the company’s performance car and motorsport activities.

“Nismo will bring new excitement to the Nissan portfolio with a broader range of affordable and innovative performance models for more markets and more people,” said Mr. Ghosn. “Whether it’s a small car or a sports car, if it’s wearing the Nismo badge it offers something special – quality, functionality, and efficiency, with Nismo’s distinctive styling, sporty handling and dynamic performance capabilities.”

The first new Nissan road car to get the Nismo treatment, the Juke Nismo, is already on sale in Europe and Japan and launches in the U.S. in the second quarter of this year.

A new version of the 370Z Nismo for European markets is the next Nismo road car, which made its world debut earlier this month.

Nissan is promising a rapid pace of introduction of even more models, at least one model every year during the Nissan Power88 period, encompassing the breadth of the Nissan road car range. This will include the flagship of Nissan’s performance and technology, the GT-R.

“It would be unthinkable for us to develop a range of Nismo road cars without including the GT-R,” said Mr. Ghosn. “The standard road car is a global supercar and the GT-R’s performance on track reflects the passion and talents of the Nismo team. The GT-R Nismo will be special and I can’t wait to drive it.”

We are hoping that we will soon be seeing some of these models in our local market, rather soon than later.

The Nissan 370Z Nismo

The Nissan 370Z Nismo

The Nissan 370Z Nismo was officially unveiled for the European market yesterday, signalling the entry of the second member of Europe’s new Nissan Nismo range.

The Nissan 370Z was unveiled ahead of its public debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March this year.

Featuring dramatic styling with red Nismo design signatures it also packs increased power and improved aerodynamics. Available only as a coupe with a six-speed manual gearbox, the 370Z Nismo features extensive engineering and styling enhancements.

A version of the 370Z Nismo is already on sale in North America and Japan, but for Europe a unique specification has been developed to suit both road conditions and the tastes of European driving enthusiasts. Any chance we could see the Nissan Nismo range introduced in South Africa? We hope so.

The front end features a more aggressive design improving airflow under the car, leading to improved stability at higher speeds and through corners. This additional downforce is complemented by an extensively re-engineered suspension and chassis set-up, enhancing stability and handling on both road and track.

Other design enhancements include the distinctive Nismo red pinstripe lines visible at both the front and the rear and on the door mirrors. Unique dark grey Nismo superlight 19-inch forged alloy wheels with sports-derived red brake calipers and wider high performance tyres are also fitted. At the rear a smart new spoiler adds the finishing visual touch while also improving aerodynamic performance.

Inside, the steering wheel is finished in alcantara and leather with a red race-inspired ‘top dead centre’ marker, as seen on the Juke Nismo. The sports seats are fully electric with special Nismo badging and red stitching for a premium and sporty detail. The finishing touch is a numbered Nismo plate adding exclusivity to each 370Z Nismo.

The Z’s 3.7-litre V6 engine in the 370Z Nismo delivers 253kW, up from 241kW in the standard car, while torque increases from 363Nm to 371Nm. The result is improved responsiveness across the low and mid rev range, and a claimed 0 to 100km/h time of only 5.2 seconds.

Enhancing braking feel is also a crucial part of the Z’s development, so Nismo engineers have adopted high rigidity brake hoses and high performance brake fluid from the R35 GT-R. An exclusive Nismo dual exhaust system also enhances and amplifies the thrilling sound of the Z’s 3.7-litre V6 engine.

2013 Nissan GT-R Nismo GT3 2013 Released

2013 Nissan GT-R Nismo GT3 2013 Released

Nissan yesterday released the 2013 Nissan GT-R Nismo GT3, which conforms to the FIA GT3 regulations. The Nissan GT-R Nismo GT3 has a base power and torque output of 405kW and 637Nm.

The 2012 Nissan GT-R Nismo GT3, which debuted this March, has participated in a number of races such as the Super GT series (GT 300 class), Super Taikyu (GT3 Class), British GT Championship as well as the GT Cup.

The 2013 Nissan GT-R Nismo GT3, was developed using the valuable data gained through the year, in addition to dyno testing, track tests and customer feedback, to enhance its competitiveness and performance.

The main improvements to the vehicle include; engine performance and durability upgrades, aerodynamic performance, brake balance, suspension settings, and gear ratios.

The engine upgrades according to NISMO have contributed the most to the performance enhancements. Some of the engine changes include, new camshaft timing, as well as increased reinforcement of engine components to guarantee durability.

From an aerodynamic perspective, several modifications were made to enhance aerodynamics. Canards (to help tune the handling at the front of the car especially during hard cornering, by increasing downforce at high speeds), the front fender louvres were enlarged, and the rear wind position was optmised. These changes have all helped to improve the aerodynamic balance between the front and rear.

Nissan Juke Nismo Revealed at Le Mans

Nissan Juke Nismo Revealed at Le Mans

The production version of the Nissan Juke Nismo made its debut at the Le Mans this past weekend, alongside the Nissan Juke R and the Nissan DeltaWing. The Nissan Juke Nismo concept was unveiled at the Tokyo and Geneva Motor Show in 2011.

The choice for launching the Nissan Juke Nismo performance crossover was most likely helped by the good reception of the Nissan Juke-R which has been put into production due to demand although originally envisioned as a once-off concept.

The Juke Nismo is powered by a tuned-up version of its 1.6-litre direct injection turbocharged petrol engine, inspired by the engine fitted on the Nissan DeltaWing.

Costmetic changes include a new aerodynamics kit, which features lower front and rear bumpers, wider wings and sill side skirts, and a modified grille and tailgate spoiler which control airflow. Stylish new 18-inch alloy wheels with wider tyres offer improved grip, and further boost the Juke’s on-road presence.

The Nismo treatment continues inside the cabin, where the steering wheel, pedals, gauges, gear knob and door trims have been redesigned to boost the sporty feeling when driving. To enhance the performance personality of the car, special suede-trimmed Nismo sports seats with red stitching have been added for increased holding while cornering.

From a ride and handling perspective the Nissan Juke Nismo features stiffened suspension settings and new steering modifications for sportier direct handling and improved traction control, the new model will also be available with torque vectoring, a technology offering better grip and cornering capacity.

Andy Palmer, Executive Vice President Global Product Planning, says “The introduction of Juke Nismo further cements our dedication to provide innovation and excitement for everyone. The Juke, with its radical design and pioneering attitude, is the natural choice to be one of the first Nissan models to receive the mythical performance and distinctive design treatment from our Nismo specialists.”

If you have some time to spare watch the video below where Jerry Hardcastle, Global Chief Marketability Engineer, explains the techs and specs of some of the cars Nissan show cased at the Le Mans , from the Juke Nismo to the Nissan DeltaWing.
