Alfa Romeo Roadster to be Produced by Mazda

Alfa Romeo Roadster to be Produced by Mazda

One of last week’s highlights, that is excluding the North American International Auto Show, was the announcement that Mazda would be producing the Alfa Romeo Roadster for Fiat.

The open-top two-seater sports car for Fiats Alfa Romeo brand will be produced at Mazda’s plant in Hiroshima, Japan, starting from 2015.

The new Alfa Romeo Roadster will be developed for the global market, and will be based on the architecture of the next generation Mazda MX-5. Not too bad considering the success of the Mazda MX-5 over the years.

The agreement foresees for both Mazda and Fiat to develop two differentiated, distinctly styled, and brand specific roadster featuring-rear wheel drive.

The Mazda MX-5 and the Alfa Romeo Roadster variants will each be powered by specific proprietary engines unique to each brand.

New Mazda 3 Pictures Leaked

New Mazda 3 Pictures Leaked

So the Mazda 3 is only meant to be previewed sometime mid 2013 but somehow the crew at Auto Express managed to get an unmarked envelope which contained pictures of the new Mazda 3.

The pictures show the Mazda Kodo design philosophy applied to the Mazda 3, a philosophy which has been translated and applied well on the new Mazda CX-5, the Mazda 6 and the Mazda 6 Wagon.

According to feedback Auto Express received from Mazda UK, “these are digital renderings. drawn up to show how the Kodo design language translates to new models, rather than a real car.” Irrespective of these pictures are most likely to be close to the real thing.

From the pictures it seems that both the Mazda 3 hatch and sedan version will be offered, both of which will most likely feature Mazda’s fuel-efficient SkyActiv technology.

According to Auto Express the Mazda 3 sedan will be pitched against the forthcoming Audi A3 sedan whilst the Mazda 3 hatch will be challenging the new Volkswagen Golf (VW Golf VII).

The SKYACTIV-G 2.0 will be mated to a 6 speed SKYACTIV-DRIVE automatic transmission or 6 speed SKYACTIV manual  gear box whereas the SKYACTIV-G 2.5 will be mated to a SKYACTIV-DRIVE transmission.

Some of the  new technological features on the Mazda 6 include the i-stop idling stop system, the i-ELoop system Mazda’s unique brake energy regeneration system, as a well as a variety of advanced active safety technologies. For example, Rear Vehicle Monitoring (RVM) and Adaptive Front Lighting system (AFS) driver awareness and improve field of vision at night, and the Smart City Brake Support (SCBS) system which will take steps to avoid or reduce the severity of an accident even if the driver takes no action. Other than this the passive safety systems will also act to minimize damage when a collisions occurs.
