New Golf GTI to Make Debut in Geneva

New Golf GTI to Make Debut in Geneva

The new Volkswagen Golf GTI is set to debut at the 2013 Geneva International Motor Show following on the premier of the Golf GTI concept late last year at the Paris Motor Show.

For the first time the Golf GTI will be available in two power levels, the standard 162kW or the GTI performance with 169kW and front axle differential lock. Both GTI versions will develop 350Nm.

The sporty character of the Golf GTI is reflected in its traditional red-painted brake callipers, two chrome tailpipes and a sport suspension. The exterior of the compact sports car also scores with 17-inch “Brooklyn” GTI wheels and 225/45 size tyres, special side sills, a diffuser and smoked LED rear lights (including LED licence plate illumination).

Visual highlights in the interior are top sport seats in tartan pattern (“Clark”), a black roofliner and red ambience lighting. The cars also offers sporty GTI features such as a sport steering wheel, GTI gear shift grip and instrument cluster, special trim strips and stainless steel pedals and foot support.

The new Golf GTI may not be the most exciting performance hatch out there but we hope it will offer the same level of all round performance that we have come to expect from it. Judging from the general feedback on the new Golf VII, we think it will do just that.

The new Golf GTI will be introduced in the second half of the year in South Africa.

The New Ford Focus ST vs The VW Golf VI GTI, Which Is Better?[Video]

The New Ford Focus ST vs The VW Golf VI GTI, Which Is Better?[Video]

In this video Ken Block and Vaughn Gittin Jr. put the New Ford Focus ST against the GOlf VI GTi. The video may be a bit biased considering that Ford asked both drivers to pit the two vehicles against each other, and perhaps even more so since both drivers professionally race Ford vehicles.

However the video makes for great entertainment. We think the Ford and VW fans will be at each others throats really soon, especially since the Ford Focus ST has now been launched locally.

Official Pictures of the New Golf GTI Concept

The new Volkswagen Golf GTI concept was premiered at the 2012 Paris Motor Show yesterday. The new Golf GTI will produce 162kW and 350Nm in the standard option and 169kW and 350Nm with the optional performance pack. The new Golf GTI will be launched early in 2013 in Europe.

The Golf GTI is powered by a 2.0l turbocharged engine with stop/start technology and fulfils EU-6 emission requirements which come effective in 2014. The engine is mated to a 6 speed manual gearbox or the optional 6 speed dual-clutch gearbox (DSG). Overall fuel consumption on the Golf GTI has been improved with the 162kW Golf GTI having a fuel consumption of 6.0l/100km which is an improvement of 1.3l/100km or 18% improvement over the outgoing model.

The 162kW powered Golf GTI accelerates from 0-100km/h in 6.6 seconds and reaches a top speed of 246km/h whilst the 169kW powered Golf GTI accelerates from 0-100km/h in 6.5 seconds and reaches 250km/h.

The performance pack not only offers a plus in power, but also a plus in handling: instead of 16-inch brakes, the GTI is equipped with 17-inch brakes here (with GTI badges on the callipers) and a front axle differential lock (VAQ) that is also being offered for the first time in this form.

A new progressive steering system will be standard on the Golf GTI and optional on all other Golf variants. The progressive steering allows the GTI to realise optimised steering behaviour that is sporty yet practical in everyday driving.

From an exterior styling perspective the new Golf GTI follows the ethos that has been defined by previous model GTI’s featuring classic GTI insignia. On the exterior, these include the red painted brake callipers, a GTI-typical honeycomb structure for the air inlet screens, smoked LED rear lights including LED licence plate lighting as well as chrome 80 mm diameter tailpipes on the left and right.

The Golf GTI interior is filled by tartan patterned sport’s seats with red decorative seams, black roof liner, GTI special gear shift grip embossed by red decorated seams, and GTI spec sport steering wheel.

Also making a strong statement is the GTI instrument cluster with a colour display and independent graphics of its instruments. The GTI-specific look of the interior is completed out by red ambience lighting, special trim strips and panels (trim strips in the front doors with ambience lighting), brushed stainless steel pedals and foot rest (on left), door sill entry plates in front with a stainless steel application and ambience lighting that is also integrated here.

2013 Peugeot 208 GTi

2013 Peugeot 208 GTi

Almost two months after the launch of the new Peugeot 208, Peugeot has introduced the three-door 208 GTi, its so called supermini.

The Peugeot 208 GTi comes equipped with a 1.6 Litre petrol engine which develops 147kW and 275Nm and enables it to sprint from zero to 100km/h in less than 7 seconds (claimed). The 1.6 litre petrol engine is coupled to a manual gearbox with six, close ratio gears, which probably indicate that the engine will love working out at the higher engine rev range. Peugeot claims the 208 GTi emits an appealing engine sounds that carries right through the speed range.

The Peugeot 208 GTi benefits from a widened track, 10mm at front and 20mm at the rear, which give it a very characteristic posture. Other significant changes to the bodywork include changes to the body sill and roof spoiler.

The 17” matt diamond carbon rims shod with 205/45 tyres, the 17″ diamond Carbon wheels, house 302mm ventilated discs at the front and 249mm at the rear, leading to a relatively snug fit between the wheels and the wheel arches.

At the front, the 3D sport chequered flag mesh gloss black grille with chrome inserts gives the 208 GTi an element of dynamism of which is further accentuated by the integrated front headlights which houses the main beam halogen headlamps, indicators and running day lights.

On the side the 208 GTI is embellished by a chromed trim strip running on the lower edge of the window that culminates in a signature accent at the rear quarter panel that bears the GTi logo and that pays homage to the illustrious 205 GTi.

At the rear of the 208 GTi the main highlights are the gloss black rear skirt and the trapezoidal chromed double tailpipe.

The exterior styling is echoed on the interior by the use of carefully designed components that make the 208 GTi unique. Some of which include the aluminium door sill embossed with the Peugeot name, and styling changes which combine red, black and satin chrome and red GTi overstitching throughout.
