Ford Fiesta ST Confirmed For South Africa

Good News for Ford Fiesta fans, Ford last week Friday announced that they will be introducing the new Ford Fiesta ST locally. The Ford Fiesta ST was first unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year and most recently at the LA Auto Show. The Ford Fiesta ST is set for launch in South Africa in the first half of 2013.

“We’re delighted to be bringing a new generation Fiesta ST to South African performance enthusiasts in 2013,” said Ford Marketing Manager Gavin Golightly. “With the Fiesta ST joining the new Focus ST, we will again be able to deliver a choice of affordable small performance cars that are designed to deliver a unique blend of stand-out styling and dynamic on-road performance with true practicality for everyday use.”

The new Ford Fiesta ST is powered by a 1.6 litre EcoBoost engine delivering 132kW of power and 240Nm of torque. The 0 to 100km/h sprint takes under seven seconds according to Ford and has a top speed of 220km/h, all whilst maintaining frugal fuel consumption.

Developed by Ford Team RS, the new Fiesta ST delivers significant ride-and-handling improvements through the introduction of a specially tuned chassis that sits 15mm lower than the standard Fiesta; Ford’s enhanced Torque Vectoring Control system; and three Electronic Stability Control modes. The technologies were put to the test over 5000 kilometres of driving on Germany’s Nürburgring Nordschleife.

The new Fiesta ST features unprecedented levels of equipment and specification to suit the sporting driver, with standard Recaro sports seats. It will also be equipped with MyKey and SYNC™, Ford’s voice-activated in-car connectivity system. A new bold and dynamic exterior design drives home the high performance message and features the latest Ford design signatures including a large trapezoidal grille.

The Exciting Ford Fiesta Magnet

The Exciting Ford Fiesta Magnet

Ford South Africa will be introducing the limited edition Ford Fiesta Magnet, of which only 75 cars will be available end November. The car will be available in a number of colours, all of which are Black. This reminds one of Henry Ford statement when he kick started Ford with the introduction of the Model T in 1909, “Any customer can have a car painted any colour that he wants so long as it is black.”

The Ford Fiesta Magnet stands apart from the crowd with its up-rated performance credentials, unique interior and exterior styling elements and connected mobility features.

The Fiesta Magnet is powered by 1.6-litre Duratec petrol engine with 99kW and 160Nm, 11kW and 8Nm extra over the standard 1.6-litre Duratec engine. The handling also receives some attention with a special designed sports suspension to complete the dynamic package.

Exterior changes to the Ford Fiesta include body-colour front and rear bumpers with side-skirts and aerofoil, rocker-panel mouldings and a sporty rear spoiler. Further details unique to the Magnet’s exterior appearance are a unique front grille surround, painted fog lamp rings, halogen projector headlamps with black bezel and privacy glass on rear side windows and tailgate glass. To complete the look, it rides on black 17” alloy wheels.

Inside the cabin the exclusive treatment continues with the addition of black leather sports seats with silver stitching and seat heaters in the front seats. The steering wheel, with gloss black spoke shells, is similarly finished in black leather and silver stitching, while alloy pedal capping’s, front and rear Magnet door mats and a heated windshield complete the stylish interior atmosphere.

Other than that the rest of the car’s features are as per any standard Ford Fiesta.

The Ford Fiesta range is offered with a 4-year / 120 000km warranty and 4-year / 60 000km service plan. Service intervals are staggered at 20 000km intervals for this petrol derivative. Customers will also benefit from 3-years of Roadside Assistance and a 5-year corrosion warranty.

The Fiesta Magnet will go on sale for R229000.

Redesigned 2013 Ford Fiesta Revealed

Redesigned 2013 Ford Fiesta Revealed

The redesigned 2013 Ford Fiesta was revealed this week Wednesday a day before Ford’s special “Go Further” product event hosted by Ford President and CEO Alan Mulally in Amsterdam.

The 2013 Ford Fiesta incorporates Ford’s latest global design language, with one of the key elements being the trapezoidal front grille. Other than the exterior changes Ford has also done some work to ergonomically optimise the interior of the vehicle and has also added the Ford SYNC voice activated in-car connectivity system.

Ford SYNC in-car connectivity system delivers an unprecedented level of connectivity, enabling owners to voice-activate phone calls and music selection from devices connected via Bluetooth or USB.

The 2013 Ford Fiesta does not marke a huge departure from the current Ford Fiesta and this was evidents in comments made by Martin Smith, Ford of Europe executive design director, with regards to how vital it had been to maintain the “vital part of the Fiesta’s make-up” and still “give it a more sophisticated look.”

One of the new engine options on the 2013 Ford Fiesta will be the award winning 1.0 litre EcoBoost petrol engine which won the 2012 “International Engine of the Year.”

EcoBoost combines turbocharging, direct fuel injection and variable valve timing on both intake and exhaust to deliver the power of a larger engine with the fuel efficiency of a smaller unit.

The new Fiesta will be launched in South Africa in 2013.
