Jean Todt Speaks To Bentley On The Future Of The Automotive Industry [Video]

In a series of videos released by Bentley titled “Bentley Mulsanne Visionaries,” one of the videos happens to be an interview with Jean Todt the current President of the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA).

Although the video is made to promote the Bentley Mulsanne which was first introduced to market in 2010, it is still rather informative.

Jean Todt has led an interesting career in the automotive industry starting of as a rally co-driver, to motor sport  management  with the Peugeot Talbot Sport and then with Ferrari, after which he was also the CEO of the Luxury car brand Ferrari from 2004 to 2008, before taking up his current duties as President of FIA.

In the video, Jean Todt point out his love of cars, and racing, his vision for the future of the automotive industry in terms of engine advancements as the development of electric vehicles.

Having been involved with the automotive industry Jean Todt appreciates the advancements in technology, the improvement in driver safety within Formula one and hopes that the synergy between racing and road cars would continue to lead to improvements for all to benefit from.

One of the point he makes is that the automotive industry is still young, being only about a century old, and questions “How will a car be in 100 years, when it is already difficult to say how a car will be like in 10 or 15 years.”

Enjoy the video.

Bentley Continental GT3 Concept Unveiled

Bentley Continental GT3 Concept Unveiled

Bentley unveiled the Bentley Continental GT3 concept based on the GT Speed at the Parish Motor Show yesterday. This marks 10 years since the first Bentley Continental GT as unveiled to the world at the Paris Motor Show in 2002.

I have to admit that I’m smitten by the Bentley Continental GT. The first time I fell in love with this car was just as I was starting my engineering career at Volkswagen South Africa. One summer day as I walked into the vehicle workshop I was blessed to see one of the few if not only pre-production Bentley Continental GT’s which was in South Africa for hot weather teasting.

The Bentley Continental GT is being prepared by a dedicated motorsport team at the company’s factory in Crewe. Bentley hopes to return to its motorsport roots, towards the end of 2013, for the first time since its historic sixth Le Mans victory in 2003.

Being based on the GT Speed, the Bentley Continental GT3 Concept inherently has its performance capabilities, hig-speed stability and durability, a good basis on which to tailor the vehicle for track use. The Bentley Continental GT3 Concept has been tailored for track use by; adopting a rear wheel drive chassis in accordance with the regulations, installation of the state-of-the-art motorsport hardware and an aerodynamic package.

The development of the Bentley Continental GT3 will be headed by Brian Gush, Bentley’s director of Chassis, Powertrain and Motorsport. Brian Gush led the programme that famously saw a brace of Bentley Speed 8 prototype racers take a dominant and dramatic one/two at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2003.
