The Very Striking Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 Roadster

The Very Striking Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 Roadster

Lamborghini officially released details on the new open-top Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 Roadster and judging from the comments we have seen on the web, it’s an instant hit.

The new Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 Roadster can immediately be recognised by the unique profile of its upper area, which extends along newly designed geometric lines from the removable roof to the engine hood.

The tow-piece roof is made entirely from carbon fibre, and is said to offer a level of aesthetic performance and stiffness, while still being extremely light. The tow-piece roof is stored in the front luggage compartment.

The rear pillar has been redesigned to offer support for the removable roof, accommodate an automatic protection system for passengers, and provide the engine compartment with ample ventilation.

Another noticeable feature on the Lamborghinin Aventador LP 700-4 Roadster is the engine hood which differs from the Avenatdor coupé. The central spine has two pairs of hexagonal windows connected at the sides as if they were hyper-tech armour plates. Lamborghini states that the functional design of the engine hood provides or rather enhances; engine cooling, rain water drain off, and proved direct visibility to the belly of the beast, the powerful V12 Engine.

The rear windshield not only allows occupants the opportunity to control the flow of wind in the cabin along with the wind deflector, but to also control the amount of engine noise from the V12 motor which penetrates the cabin.

The body of the new Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 Roadster sports a two-tone finish, as the windshield pillar, the two roof sections and the rear window area up to the “fins” are painted in gloss black.

A new exterior colour has also been added for the Lamborghini Aventador, Azzuro Thetis, a very light, metallic blue colour which commemorates the colour used on the 1968 Miura Roadster.

These tow-tone finishes, especially with the new Azzuro Thetis exterior colour shown in the press pictures, really do justice to the Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 Roadster, and makes for a compelling reason to stare jaws dropped at the roadster for a few minutes.

The Interior upholstery also receives some attention with the use of new leather called Sabbia Nerferte, which complements the new Azzuro Thetis exterior colour.

The new Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 Roadster also gains some new Dione 20”/21” rims which also contribute to the daring, aggressive look of the roadster. These rims are 10 kilograms lighter than the standard rims.

The 6.5 litre centrally located V12 engine generates 515kW and 690Nm and is mated to and ISR 7-speed gearbox. Performance figures from Lamborghini indicate that the 0-100km/h takes only 3 seconds flat and that the top speed is 350km/h. The 3 second acceleration time is only 0.1 second slower than the Aventador coupé.

2013 Lamborghini LP700-4: The Efficient Supercar

2013 Lamborghini LP700-4: The Efficient Supercar

More information on the 2013 Lamborghini LP700-4 cylinder deactivation and start/stop system has been released during the Paris Motor Show. Other than these technological advancements the Lamborghini LP700-4 also gains new individualisation options as well as improved ride and handling thanks to stiffer springs and optimised dampers.

The addition of these technologies has led to a claimed fuel consumption of 16 litres/100km a reduction of 7%.

The energy for restart following a stop phase (e.g. at a traffic light) is delivered by high performance capacitors known as supercaps which power up the Lamborghini LP700-4 extremely fast in 180 milliseconds. This is significantly faster than most conventional stop/start systems.

The Cylinder Deactivation System (CDS) on the Lamborghini LP700-4 is activated under low loads. Under low load and at speeds of less than 135 km/h, the CDS deactivates one cylinder bank, allowing the power unit to run as an inline six. But with just the slightest movement of the gas pedal, the extreme performance of the V12 engine with its 515 kW is back online.

The CDS and the start/stop system work incredibly quickly, are virtually imperceptible to the driver and have absolutely no negative impact on the amazing driving experience.

2013 Lamborghini Aventador

2013 Lamborghini Aventador

The 2013 Lamborghini Aventador  is reported to becoming out with a number of changes . However the most notable changes to the Aventador  will be the reduction in exhaust emissions and improved fuel efficiency of the thirsty 6.5 litre V12 engine. Lamborghini hopes to do this by pairing cylinder deactivation under light loads and engine start-stop technology.

The cylinder deactivation on the Aventador will work by cutting 6 of the 12 cylinders when they are not needed.

What is however interesting with these changes is that the Lamborghini may pioneer the use of supercapacitors rather than a lithium-ion battery to provide the stored energy to restart the engine after a stop. These supercapacitors are lighter than any battery of the same energy capacity and deliver more power quickly. In the case of the Aventador it is estimated to take 180 milliseconds to restart the engine.

The result of these changes on the 2013 Aventador is purportedly a fuel consumption of 16 L/100km compared to the current 17.2 L/100km and a reduction of CO2 emissions from 398 g/km to 370 g/km.
