2013 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 and 4S Details Released

Porsche yesterday released some information on the upcoming Carrera 4 and 4S model range. The new Porsche 911 Carrera 4 and 4S all-wheel-drive will make their first public appearance at the 2012 Paris International Motor Show September 29, 2012, with expected sales starting in early 2013.

The new 911 Carrera 4 and 4S will be launched in four versions; the 911 Carrera 4 and 4S, each as a Coupé and Cabriolet. These vehicles feature the latest version of Porsche’s all wheel drive system, Porsche Traction Management (PTM) with a rear bias, which Porsche claims will offer maximum vehicle dynamics on a wide variety of road surfaces and in all weather conditions.

The traits of the current 911 Carrera are shared with the Carrera 4 and 4S in that the new all wheel drive models still make use of the lightweight body design, similar suspension, and use similar engines and gearboxes. However from a styling perspective the Carrera 4 and 4S models have a wider rear section, with the rear wheel housing extending further outwards by 22mm on either side. In addition at the rear the traditional red light band that connects the two rear taillights have also received bit of a styling tweak.

Improvements over the previous model 911 Carrera 4 and 4S from a weight perspective include a weight reduction of 65kg.

All new models have a seven-speed manual gearbox as standard, and the Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) seven-speed gearbox is available as an option.

The 911 Carrera 4 Coupé with its 3.4-liter, 257kW flat-six engine can sprint from zero to 100km/h in as little as 4.9 seconds (Cabriolet: 5.1 s) and reach a top-track speed of up to 285km/h (Cabriolet: 282km/h), depending on equipment features.

The Coupé and Cabriolet of the 911 Carrera 4S each have a 3.8-liter rear-mounted boxer engine that produces 294kW; this enables acceleration to 100km/h in 4.5 seconds (Cabriolet: 4.7 seconds) and a top-track speed of 299km/h (Cabriolet: 286km/h) depending on the equipment configuration.

Other features available on the new on the new 911 Carrera 4 include an additional menu in the instrument cluster which informs the driver how the PTM all-wheel drive is currently distributing engine power, Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), the Porsche Active System (PAS) for vehicles equipped with the PDK System, a new optional sliding roof for the 911 Carrera Coupé and vehicles equipped with the Sport Chrono pack on manual transmission 911’s will automatically double-declutch during downshifts.

At the moment we still have not confirmed pricing for South Africa, but we will let you know as soon as we get some info.
