New Volkswagen Golf Named ‘World Car of the Year 2013’

The Volkswagen Golf VII was last week Thursday named the ‘World Car of the Year 2013’ at the 2013 Ney York International Auto Show.

This award comes a few weeks after the Volkswagen Golf VII was named the ‘European Car of the Year 2013’ at the 2013 Geneva motor Show. Thus far the new Golf has already received 17 awards since its launch in November 2012.

Prof. Dr. Martin Winterkorn, Chairman of the Board of Management of Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft, explained: “We at Volkswagen are all delighted that the Golf has been named ‘World Car of the Year’. To win this award again shows that the Golf is and remains in a class of its own all around the world. This car sets new benchmarks again and again, not least in terms of efficiency and environmental credentials.”

The ‘World Car of the Year’ jury consists of 66 motoring journalists from 23 countries, who rate new cars appearing on the world market not only for the award, but also in their daily reporting work for millions of drivers and car enthusiasts.

With the Golf VII being launched locally in February this year, there is probably a great chance that the Golf will continue in its winning streak and get named the South African Car of the Year 2014.

We can only wish Volkswagen well.
