Welcome the new C-segment 2013 Toyota Auris, a bewitching car according to Toyota.
According to Glenn Crompton, Vice President of Marketing, the changes to the all-new Auris are dramatic: “It now looks a lot sharper and more distinctive. It’s lower and visually has a more dynamic stance but the revisions are much more than just skin deep. The whole package is lighter, the handling and steering are sweeter thanks to tweaks to the suspension and electric power steering and the car generally feels more nimble and responsive, but I’m happy to say it still rides exceptionally well – if anything it’s even more compliant.”
The new 2013 Toyota Auris has an overall length of 4275mm (an increase of 30mm) and its wheelbase remains the same at 2600mm. The overall height of the Auris has also been reduced by 55mm making it one of the lowest vehicles in the segment, all without compromising on passenger accommodation.
The look up front takes on the new Toyota family “face,” the most noteworthy elements being the grille design and the eyebrow shaped headlamps.
The side profile is stronger than the outgoing Auris and features a steeply-raked windscreen, a pronounced rising belt line and a sharper angle to the rear pillar. What also helps with the sleeker and streamlined look of the Auris is the lowered ride height (10mm lower) which narrows the gap between the wheel arches and tyres, and aligning the wheels more closely with the bodywork.
A wide opening tailgate at the rear (increased by 20mm) should help with hauling things in and out of the Toyota Auris. The rear tailgate features concave and convex surfacing which add and amusing element to the rear and this is topped off with an integral roof spoiler.
Another notable feature at the rear is the wraparound rear combination lamp design which reinforces the shape of both the rear wing and rear screen, as well as the added strength of the shoulder over the rear wheel arch.
The interior as mentioned earlier is said to offer more space and greater comfort for occupants. Overall the interior looks like it offers a premium feel with silver paint finish on dash items, same font on the switch gear, instrument cluster and center console.
Overall occupant space has been optimised by a new front seat design which increases rear leg room by 20mm. Ingress and egress from the rear passenger has also been optimised by increasing the opening width.
Load space on the Toyota Auris has been increased from 283 litres to 360 litres with the added flexibility of using the 60:40 split-folding rear seats.
The Toyota Auris will be powered by two petrol variants and a hybrid engine which will become available in the form of the Toyota HSD from February 2013 onwards.
The two petrol variants will consist of the 1.33 litre dual VVT-I petrol engine (73kW and 128NM) and the 1.6 litre Valvematic petrol engine (97kW and 160Nm).
Available on the 1.6 Valematic petrol versions of the Auris will be the Multidrive S continuously variable transmission (CVT) which first appeared on the Toyota Verso.
