More Grunt For 2013 Audi S3 [Including Video]

The 2013 Audi S3, the third generation of the Audi S3, comes equipped with a 2.0 litre TFSI engine churning out 221kW of power, an improvement of 26kW over the outgoing model, and 380Nm of torque. The new Audi S3 is set for launch globally in 2013.

The Audi S3 features the S-specific single-frame grille at the front, with prominent large air inlets and additional implied air openings found toward the wheels.

From the side the aluminium look exterior mirrors, the pronounced side sills and the large functional rear spoiler catch the eye. At the rear the bumper has also been redesigned, the platinum grey diffuser houses the exhaust system’s four oval tailpipes, which sport chrome tips.

Highlights among the 14 colours available for the Audi S3 are the exclusive crystal-effect finishes Panther Black and Estoril Blue.

The new 4 cylinder 2.0litre TFSI engine on the Audi S3, develops its rated power of 221kW at 5500rpm and delivers a constant torque of 380Nm between 1800 and 5500rpm, with the engine redlining at 6800rpm.

The 2.0litre TFSI engine propels the Audi S3 from standstill to 100km/h in 5.1 seconds when equipped with the S tronic gearbox and 5.4 seconds with the manual transmission. Fuel consumption with the S tronic transmission is rated at 6.9l/100km and CO2 emissions of 159g/km.

A sporty sound is enhanced by the use of an electromechanical sound actuator at the . This sound is further enhanced by the use of a sound flap housed in the exhaust system that opens at certain engine speed ranges to give the S3 a sportily sonorous sound.

The new Audi S3 comes standard with a manual six-speed transmission and an optional six-speed S tronic transmission with a tall sixth gear. The lower gears are short in the interest of dynamics, as is also the case with the manual transmission. A quattro permanent all-wheel drive is an integral component of the powertrain.

Performance enhancements to the ride and handling have been achieved through a number of things some of which are; a weight reduction of components, the weight distribution of the axle loads, use of front and rear stabilizer bars, as well as the use of progressive steering.

With progressive steering, the steering rack is geared in such a way that the ratio varies. It is somewhat more indirect around the centre and very direct when steered sharply and decreasing its output as speed increases.

The sport suspension on the Audis S3 lowers the body by 25 millimetres (0.98 in) compared with the A3.

The new Audi S3 rolls on 7.5 J x 18 alloy wheels with 225/40-series tires. The wheels sport an S-specific design with five parallel spokes.

Audi drive select comes standard in the new Audi S3. It incorporates the characteristics of the electronic accelerator, the boost of the progressive steering and the shift points of the optional S tronic. The driver determines with the push of a button whether these systems operate in comfort, auto, dynamic, efficiency or individual mode. In individual mode (available with the MMI radio or above), drivers can compose their own preferred profile within certain limits.
