Bentley Continental GT3 Concept Unveiled

Bentley unveiled the Bentley Continental GT3 concept based on the GT Speed at the Parish Motor Show yesterday. This marks 10 years since the first Bentley Continental GT as unveiled to the world at the Paris Motor Show in 2002.

I have to admit that I’m smitten by the Bentley Continental GT. The first time I fell in love with this car was just as I was starting my engineering career at Volkswagen South Africa. One summer day as I walked into the vehicle workshop I was blessed to see one of the few if not only pre-production Bentley Continental GT’s which was in South Africa for hot weather teasting.

The Bentley Continental GT is being prepared by a dedicated motorsport team at the company’s factory in Crewe. Bentley hopes to return to its motorsport roots, towards the end of 2013, for the first time since its historic sixth Le Mans victory in 2003.

Being based on the GT Speed, the Bentley Continental GT3 Concept inherently has its performance capabilities, hig-speed stability and durability, a good basis on which to tailor the vehicle for track use. The Bentley Continental GT3 Concept has been tailored for track use by; adopting a rear wheel drive chassis in accordance with the regulations, installation of the state-of-the-art motorsport hardware and an aerodynamic package.

The development of the Bentley Continental GT3 will be headed by Brian Gush, Bentley’s director of Chassis, Powertrain and Motorsport. Brian Gush led the programme that famously saw a brace of Bentley Speed 8 prototype racers take a dominant and dramatic one/two at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2003.
