2012 Mercedes Benz SL 63 AMG

The All new SL 63 AMG was revealed two weeks ago at the Geneva Motor Show, the SL 63 AMG has an all aluminium bodyshell which leads to a 125 kilogram weight saving compared to its predecessor.

The AMG 5.5litre V8 twin-turbocharged engine delivers 395 kW and 800 Nm of torque or 415 kW and 900 Nm If the AMG Performance package is specified. The claimed acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h is 4.3 or 4.2 seconds with the Performance package added.

The SL 63 AMG comes equipped with the AMG sports suspension based on Active Body Control (ABC), new AMG speed-sensitive sports steering, the AMG high-performance compound brake system and the AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission.

From an exterior styling perspective the SL 63 AMG is differentiated from the standard SL by an extensive AMG body kit which gives it a more aggressive purposeful look. Some of the styling details include the larger front apron with larger air dams, AMG specific LED daytime running lights, the AMG radiator grille with double louvres in silver chrome, AMG spoiler lip, and the diffuser-style rear apron.

The interior styling options are equally as appealing with AMG sports seats, AMG carbon fibre trim, AMG illuminated door sill panels, with one of the stand out details being the AMG Logo in the lower metal insert of the AMG performance steering wheel.

A plethora of options for the SL 63 AMG are available such as weight-optimised AMG ceramic high-performance compound brake system, AMG forged light-alloy wheels and AMG Performance Media with telemetry function.

To top it all off the retractable roof which easily converts the SL 63 AMG into a roadster in under 20 seconds. The retractable roof is available in 3 versions in the form of; a painted roof, glass roof, or the unique panoramic vario-roof with MAGIC SKY CONTROL whose transparency can be switched to light or dark at the push of a button.
